Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Chennai on Sunday to inaugurate a new Metro rail stretch, launch development projects and attend events at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) and a school celebrating its golden jubilee.
PM Modi will likely arrive in Chennai at 11:00 AM, where Chief Minister Vijay and other Ministers will welcome him at Porur Metro station.
The Prime Minister and CM Vijay will travel on the newly built Poonamallee–Vadapalani Metro corridor, constructed at a cost of Rs 750 crore.
PM Modi is also likely to interact with students and workers during the journey. The visit marks his first trip to Chennai since Vijay assumed office.
At 12:15 PM, the Prime Minister will reach the IIT Madras campus, where he will offer prayers at the Jalakanteswarar Temple before visiting the institute’s brain research centre.
During a programme on campus, PM Modi will inaugurate completed development projects, dedicate projects to the nation and lay foundation stones for new initiatives across Tamil Nadu. He will also address the gathering.
The programme will include the inauguration of a music training centre associated with composer Ilaiyaraaja, established on the IIT Madras campus.
Later in the day, PM Modi will attend the golden jubilee celebrations of Jaigopal Garodia Hindu Vidyalaya at 03:00 PM before returning to New Delhi.
Security has been tightened across Chennai ahead of the visit.
The Tamil Nadu BJP has also arranged receptions and roadshows along the Prime Minister’s route.
