Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid tribute to eminent freedom fighter Shyamji Krishna Varma on his death anniversary, recalling his pivotal role in India’s independence movement and his enduring legacy of courage and patriotism.
Sharing a message on social media platform X, the Prime Minister described Varma as a brave son of Mother India whose revolutionary ideas ignited a new wave of awareness within the freedom struggle.
He said Varma’s life and ideals continue to inspire generations to serve the nation with dedication and commitment.
महान स्वतंत्रता सेनानी श्यामजी कृष्ण वर्मा के जीवन से हमें साहस और हौसले की अद्भुत प्रेरणा मिलती है। यह देशवासियों में राष्ट्र के प्रति अपने कर्तव्यों के निर्वहन की भावना भी भरता है।

PM Modi emphasised that Varma’s journey exemplifies courage and determination, encouraging citizens to uphold their duty towards the country.
He also shared a Sanskrit verse, highlighting that individuals achieve true glory and recognition through acts of bravery and extraordinary resolve.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari also paid homage, stating that Varma’s revolutionary efforts strengthened India’s resolve for independence and inspired numerous freedom fighters. He offered his respectful salutations in remembrance of the leader.

Shyamji Krishna Varma remains a key figure in India’s freedom struggle. He shaped nationalist thought through his intellectual leadership, especially among Indians living abroad.
Born on October 4, 1857, in Mandvi, Gujarat, Varma worked as a revolutionary, lawyer, journalist, and patriot.
While in London, he founded the Indian Home Rule Society to encourage active resistance against British rule. He also established India House, which became a hub for Indian students and revolutionary ideas.
He launched The Indian Sociologist to promote nationalist ideology and motivate young Indians.
Varma also served as the first president of the Bombay Arya Samaj and influenced leaders such as Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.
