PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) 2025 on Thursday at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai, calling it the beginning of a new era for India’s creative economy.
PM Modi emphasised India’s growing global influence in music, film, gaming, and digital content, dubbing this the ‘sunrise of the Orange Economy’.
Addressing a global audience of artists, creators, investors, and policymakers from over 100 nations, PM Modi described the Orange Economy as one built on three pillars: content, creativity, and culture.
“We are witnessing the growth era of the Orange Economy,” PM Narendra Modi said. “India is emerging as a global hub for music, film, gaming, fashion, digital content, and live concerts. This is the dawn of the Orange Economy in India.”
PM Modi urged the world’s creative community to tap into India’s rich storytelling legacy.
“This is the right time to create in India and create for the world,” PM Narendra Modi said. “India has a treasury of stories dating back thousands of years. At a time when the world is searching for new ways of storytelling, India can lead the way.”

WAVES 2025, themed ‘Connecting Creators, Connecting Countries’, is India’s first-of-its-kind global summit focused on the media and entertainment industry.
The four-day event brings together more than 10,000 delegates, including 1,000 creators, 300+ companies, and 350+ startups from over 90 countries.

In line with PM Modi’s vision of leveraging India’s creative, technological, and talent-driven potential, WAVES 2025 aims to unlock a $50 billion market opportunity by 2029.
The event showcases India’s media and entertainment prowess on a global stage and positions the country as a digital and cultural leader.
India is hosting the Global Media Dialogue (GMD) for the first time, with ministerial representation from 25 countries. The dialogue seeks to deepen global collaboration in the creative industries.
The summit also features the WAVES Bazaar, a digital marketplace facilitating global trade and networking. It connects:
