PM Modi Hails WHO Pandemic Treaty As Global Commitment

PM Narendra Modi lauded the adoption of the WHO Pandemic Treaty as a landmark global commitment to combat future health crises.

Speaking via videoconference at the 78th Session of the World Health Assembly in Geneva on Tuesday, PM Modi called for enhanced global cooperation and highlighted India’s contributions to global health efforts.

PM Modi Calls Treaty A New Era In Global Health Governance

After three years of intense negotiations following the COVID-19 pandemic, WHO member states reached a consensus on the treaty.

India, as a signatory, joined other countries in committing to a unified response to future pandemics, aimed at closing healthcare gaps and ensuring equitable access worldwide.

“The WHO Pandemic Treaty is a shared commitment to fighting future pandemics through greater global cooperation,” PM Modi said while congratulating member nations on the successful conclusion of negotiations.

India Offers Scalable And Sustainable Health Solutions

Acknowledging the health challenges faced by the Global South, PM Modi stated that India’s approach offers “replicable, scalable, and sustainable models” that can benefit other developing nations.

He reiterated India’s willingness to share its best practices and innovations in healthcare with the global community.

PM Modi stressed that a healthy world must be inclusive, collaborative, and environmentally conscious.

“The future of a healthy world depends on inclusion, an integrated vision, and collaboration,” he told the assembly.

PM Outlines Health Key Reforms

During his address, the Prime Minister outlined key Indian health reforms, including the Ayushman Bharat scheme, which provides free healthcare to 580 million citizens.

He also emphasised the growing role of technology in health services and the government’s increased health expenditure, which has led to a significant decline in citizens’ out-of-pocket medical expenses.
