Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday wished former Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu a happy birthday and praised his remarkable contribution to India’s progress.

Born on July 1, 1949, in the village of Unguturu in Andhra Pradesh’s West Godavari district, M Venkaiah Naidu completed his education in political science and law before entering active politics. His leadership qualities emerged during his student days through the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), while his association with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) further shaped his political outlook.
M Venkaiah Naidu later gained recognition for his participation in the Jai Andhra Movement and for opposing the Emergency, during which he was jailed.
The former Vice President represented the Udaygiri Assembly constituency twice before assuming several senior responsibilities within the Bharatiya Janata Party. He later served as the party’s National President and held key portfolios in successive Union governments, including Rural Development, Urban Development, Parliamentary Affairs, Housing, and Information and Broadcasting.
The electoral college elected him as the 13th Vice President of India in 2017 with a decisive mandate.
Apart from his political achievements, M Venkaiah Naidu has remained committed to community welfare through the Swarna Bharat Trust.
The organisation promotes education, vocational training and livelihood opportunities for underprivileged children, women, people with disabilities and young people, reflecting its long-standing dedication to inclusive development.
