Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s four social media posts — three of them in Malayalam — reflected the BJP’s growing confidence in Kerala after the party created history by emerging as the single largest party in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, a first in the state’s political landscape.
The sustained and language-specific outreach from the Prime Minister highlighted the national significance the BJP leadership is attaching to the result, portraying it as a decisive political shift rather than a routine local body success.
Direct Message To Kerala Voters
Thanking voters across the state for supporting BJP-NDA candidates in the local body elections, PM Modi said the people of Kerala were disenchanted with both the Congress-led UDF and the CPI(M)-led LDF, and were now viewing the NDA as the only viable alternative capable of ensuring good governance and building a ‘Vikasita Keralam’ — a developed Kerala with opportunities for all.
The choice of Malayalam for most of his posts was widely seen as a conscious attempt to connect more deeply with Kerala’s electorate and signal the BJP’s intent to strengthen its grassroots presence while positioning itself as a serious political challenger in the state.
‘Watershed Moment’ For State Politics
In another message, PM Modi termed the mandate in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation a “watershed moment” in Kerala politics. He said the verdict showed people’s conviction that the state’s development aspirations could be realised only under the BJP, and assured that the party would prioritise the capital city’s growth while enhancing the ‘Ease of Living’ for its residents — a clear outreach to urban voters ahead of future elections.
The Prime Minister also took the opportunity to highlight the party’s organisational depth. Acknowledging the efforts of BJP workers, he said the victory was the outcome of decades of sustained grassroots work by generations of karyakartas across Kerala.
“Our karyakartas are our strength; we are proud of them,” he said in another Malayalam post, a statement that resonated strongly within party circles.
The fourth post, shared in English, reinforced the BJP’s narrative that the Thiruvananthapuram result signals a broader political realignment in Kerala, extending beyond the capital city.
Senior Union Ministers, including Rajnath Singh, Piyush Goyal and Nitin Gadkari, echoed the Prime Minister’s remarks on social media, congratulating the state BJP unit on what they described as a historic breakthrough.
Party leaders believe the outcome underlines the BJP’s expanding footprint in Kerala and suggests a gradual shift in the state’s political equations, with Thiruvananthapuram emerging as a key battleground ahead of next year’s Assembly elections.
