Celebrating Odisha Utkal Diwas: A Tribute To Odisha’s Legacy
Utkal Diwas, also known as Odisha Foundation Day, is celebrated annually on April 1.

The day marks the formation of the state of Odisha (formerly Orissa) in 1936 and recognizes the state’s cultural, historical, and linguistic importance.
It also honors Odisha’s rich heritage and its significant contributions to art, literature, and spirituality.
Chief Minister Pays Tribute To Odisha’s Founders
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi also extended his greetings, emphasizing the importance of remembering those who sacrificed for the formation of Odisha.
On his X handle, he posted (loosely translated), “Greetings and best wishes to everyone on the occasion of Odisha Day. A humble tribute to the great men who made immense sacrifices for the formation of a separate Odisha state and enhanced the glory of our language, literature, and culture. On this day, let us further strengthen our resolve to build a healthy and developed Odisha.”

Statewide Celebrations And Initiatives
To commemorate Utkal Diwas, the state is hosting a variety of events.
State Culture Minister Suryavansi Suraj announced the launch of the ‘Odia Paksha’ (Odia Language Week), which will be celebrated from April 1 to April 14, coinciding with the Odia New Year.
The celebrations will feature a range of activities, including cleanliness drives at historical sites, the distribution of Odia language learning materials, blood donation camps, a ‘Buy an Odia Book’ campaign, folk art celebrations, and Young Writers’ Day.
These events aim to further promote the cultural and linguistic heritage of the state.
This year’s Utkal Diwas celebrations highlight Odisha’s ongoing efforts to preserve and celebrate its traditions while fostering progress in various sectors.
