Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday for a five-day State Visit to India.
Upon his arrival, he was warmly received by Union Minister of State (MoS) Pabitra Margherita and was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the airport.
Warm Welcome For Chilean President In New Delhi
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced Boric’s arrival with a post saying, “Bienvenido, President Gabriel Boric! President Boric of Chile landed in New Delhi on his first State Visit to India. Accorded a ceremonial welcome & Guard of Honour.”
Accompanying Boric is a high-level delegation that includes ministers, parliament members, senior officials, business representatives, media personnel, and prominent Chileans involved in India-Chile cultural exchanges.
Over the course of his visit, Boric will travel to Agra, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, concluding his trip on April 5.
President Boric Highlights Strengthening Bilateral Ties
Upon landing in India, Boric took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his thoughts: “6:30 AM in New Delhi, and from here we begin this State Visit to India, a momentous occasion for strengthening and diversifying our economic, political, and cultural relations at a time when multilateral cooperation is more necessary than ever. We are talking about the fifth-largest economy and the most populous country on the planet, with whom we share common ground and opportunities for growth in key areas such as agribusiness, innovation, and the creative industries.”

He emphasized the goal of strengthening ties between the two nations: “We’re here to strengthen and expand our ties, and that’s why I’m joined by government officials, the National Congress, business leaders, leaders in the fields of innovation and culture, distinguished professors, and students. A busy schedule. I’ll keep you posted!”
Meetings With Indian Leadership And Key Figures
During his visit, President Boric will meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on April 1 to discuss various aspects of India-Chile relations.
PM Modi will also host a special luncheon in Boric’s honor. The Chilean President will also meet with Indian President Droupadi Murmu for further deliberations, followed by a banquet hosted in his honor.

In Mumbai and Bengaluru, Boric will engage with political leaders, industry figures, startup entrepreneurs, and technology innovators, fostering potential collaborations between the two nations in various sectors.
A Focus On Multilateral Cooperation And Shared Values
The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted that this State Visit is an important opportunity for both countries to review their bilateral relations and discuss regional and global issues of mutual interest.
“India-Chile relations have traditionally by warmth, friendship, and a commonality of views on a wide range of issues. Both countries cooperate extensively in multilateral fora and share similar views on climate change/renewable energy and the expansion and reforms of the UNSC,” the MEA stated.
Chile has consistently supported India’s claim to a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), reaffirming this stance in a joint statement issued after the Chilean Foreign Minister’s official visit to India in April 2003.
Furthermore, both nations share concerns regarding international terrorism and have consistently condemned terrorism in all its forms.
Strengthening Parliamentary And Diplomatic Relations
Earlier this year, a parliamentary delegation led by BJP Lok Sabha MP Jagdambika Pal visited Chile from January 11-15.
The delegation participated in the Summit meeting at the Congreso Futuro on January 13 and the Third World Summit of the Committees of the Future on January 14.
During their visit, they engaged in extensive discussions with Chilean parliamentarians on a variety of issues, further strengthening the diplomatic ties between the two countries.
