Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed deep sorrow over the death of Norway’s King Harald V. He extended his condolences to the Norwegian royal family and the people of Norway.
PM Modi remembered his meeting with King Harald during his visit to Norway earlier this year.
The Prime Minister said he was touched by the monarch’s warmth and his strong commitment to serving the Norwegian people.
“Deeply saddened by the passing of His Majesty King Harald V of the Kingdom of Norway,” PM Modi said in a post on X, while recalling his interaction with the King during his visit.

King Harald V died peacefully at Oslo University Hospital Rikshospitalet at 6:35 AM local time on Friday, according to the Royal House of Norway.
The Norwegian monarch was 89 years old. His death marks the end of a reign that began in January 1991 following the death of his father, King Olav V.
Harald was born on February 21, 1937, and became Norway’s King on January 17, 1991. He had faced several health-related challenges in recent years and received a permanent pacemaker in 2024.
Following Norway’s established succession rules, 53-year-old Crown Prince Haakon immediately became the country’s new King after Harald’s death.
The transition places Haakon at the head of the Norwegian monarchy as the country begins a new chapter following his father’s lengthy reign.
Doctors admitted King Harald to hospital on August 17.
The Royal House had earlier said that doctors had treated him with cortisone for haemolytic anaemia. The condition had caused fluid to accumulate.
During his hospital stay, medical teams administered antibiotics after he developed a bacterial infection in his bloodstream, according to reports.
The Royal House later described his health as having deteriorated significantly and said his condition had become ‘very serious’.
PM Modi’s tribute reflected the diplomatic significance of his recent interaction with the Norwegian monarch.
During his two-day visit to Norway in May, the Prime Minister met King Harald.
