
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday expressed grief over the cloudburst and flooding in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir. The disaster claimed at least 23 lives and injured 75 others.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by the cloudburst and flooding in Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir. The situation is being monitored closely. Rescue and relief operations are underway. Every possible assistance will be provided to those in need.”

Officials said they are airlifting the injured to hospitals. Additionally, helicopters are in use because the area is remote.
The Army, NDRF, SDRF, and local administration are conducting a joint operation to evacuate stranded people and provide medical aid.
Moreover, Minister of State (PMO) Jitendra Singh confirmed the incident and said rescue teams are assessing damage and carrying out relief work.
“We will extend all possible support to the affected area,” he assured.
J&K LG Manoj Sinha expressed anguish and ordered civil and security agencies to step up relief operations.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said he briefed Union Home Minister Amit Shah and mobilised resources from within and outside the Union Territory.
Furthermore, BJP Leader of Opposition in the J&K Assembly, Sunil Sharma, reached the site with senior officials to lead rescue efforts.
Consequently, ADC Kishtwar confirmed the suspension of the Shri Machail Yatra until further notice, as the cloudburst hit near the pilgrimage route.
Temporary shops and structures suffered extensive damage, though officials are still assessing exact figures.
Heavy rains and poor connectivity are hampering rescue efforts and verification of information.
However, authorities have urged the public not to panic. They assured that all resources, including the Red Cross and other relief agencies, are fully engaged in the mission.
