PM Modi Emphasises Innovation & Unity At Combined Commanders’ Conference

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the opening session of the three-day Combined Commanders’ Conference in Kolkata, called for integrated efforts, innovation, and self-confidence to boost the Indian armed forces’ operational readiness.

The event brings together India’s top military and civilian leadership for strategic discussions aimed at shaping the future of national defence.

The Prime Minister praised the armed forces for their commendable performance in Operation Sindoor and acknowledged their crucial roles in nation-building, anti-piracy missions, humanitarian assistance, and the safe return of Indian citizens from conflict zones.

He urged the Ministry of Defence to take swift and concrete steps to strengthen jointness, promote innovation, and accelerate the move towards atmanirbharta (self-reliance) across all military domains.

The government has designated 2025 as the ‘Year of Reforms’ in the defence sector.

PM Modi urged that the reforms focus on the future to address evolving threats and technological challenges.

Strategic Briefings and Reviews

According to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), PM Modi received briefings on the current operational preparedness of the forces, particularly in light of the changing security environment shaped by Operation Sindoor.

He also reviewed defence reforms carried out over the past two years and was presented with plans for the upcoming phase of transformation.

The theme for this year’s conference, ‘Year of Reforms – Transformation for the Future’, reflects India’s ongoing push towards modernisation and integration of its military forces.

The conference provides a rare platform for holistic dialogue between senior civilian officials and top military commanders.

Over the course of the next two days, the forum will assess a wide array of strategic issues, including force modernisation, inter-service jointness, structural changes, administrative efficiency, and enhancing readiness for multi-domain warfare.

It also aims to shape the roadmap for implementing the Prime Minister’s vision of a technologically advanced and unified defence force.

In a parallel statement, the Ministry of Defence highlighted the importance of this conference in driving forward transformational reforms.

Deliberations will focus on building synergy across the armed forces and ensuring the military remains prepared to address emerging global uncertainties with strategic clarity and operational strength.

PM Modi’s address has set a clear tone — India’s defence transformation must be bold, integrated, and future-ready.
