PM Modi condemns Pahalgam terror attack

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday directed Union Home Minister Amit Shah to take all necessary measures in response to a terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

PM Modi held a telephonic conversation with Shah and instructed him to visit the site in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district for a ground-level assessment.

Terrorists Target Tourists In Pahalgam

Earlier in the day, terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists in the Pahalgam area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

The attack left several civilians injured. Authorities moved the wounded to a local hospital in Pahalgam.

However, the state government has not yet issued an official statement on casualties or the extent of the injuries.

Omar Abdullah Condemns Attack; Calls It ‘Unprecedented’

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah condemned the attack in strong terms, calling it one of the most serious assaults on civilians in recent years.

“I’m shocked beyond belief. This attack on our visitors is an abomination. The perpetrators of this attack are animals, inhuman and worthy of contempt. No words of condemnation are enough,” Abdullah said.

He said authorities were still confirming the death toll and would release an official statement once they had more details.

Abdullah also confirmed that he had spoken to party colleague Sakina Itoo, who had already reached the hospital to oversee care for the injured.

He announced his immediate return to Srinagar.

Political Leaders Across Parties Condemn Attack

Political leaders from across the spectrum strongly denounced the incident, framing it as an attack on peace and Kashmir’s crucial tourism economy.

Congress leader Vikar Rasool Wani said the attack aimed to damage the region’s fragile economy.

“Why are they attacking the tourists? The economy is totally dependent on them. This is a part of a bigger conspiracy. The government must investigate thoroughly,” Wani said.

National Conference spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar called it a ‘dark day’ for Kashmir’s tourism.

“Just as the tourism season was about to begin, this unfortunate attack occurred. Kashmir is known for hospitality. We urge the LG administration to identify and punish those behind this act,” Dar said.

BJP Blames Pakistan for the Attack

BJP leader Ravinder Raina accused Pakistani terrorists of carrying out the attack.

Speaking from Nowshera, Raina said, “Pakistani terrorists have executed a cowardly assault on tourists in Pahalgam. They cannot face our brave soldiers, so they target unarmed civilians instead.”

He confirmed that some of the injured tourists were admitted to a local hospital.
