PM Modi Dials Punjab CM To Review Rain And Flood Situation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Monday regarding the state’s rain and flood situation. This was soon after he returned to New Delhi from his visit to China, according to official sources.

The Prime Minister assured the Chief Minister of all necessary assistance and support, the sources added.

Chief Minister Mann described the current floods as the worst Punjab has witnessed in recent history. He reassured citizens that the state government stands firmly with them in this difficult time and is making every possible effort to extend relief.

On a visit to flood-hit areas in Hoshiarpur, the Chief Minister interacted with affected families at a shelter set up in Government Senior Secondary School, Miani.

He said the natural calamity has caused unprecedented devastation, but officials are carrying out large-scale rescue and relief operations.

Mann noted that the administration has already rolled out measures to ease the suffering of people in the worst-hit districts. He added that clear instructions have been issued to evacuate stranded residents and provide them with immediate aid.

Departments across all districts are coordinating closely to maximise relief efforts.

The Chief Minister pledged that compensation would be provided for every loss incurred by people due to the disaster. He also emphasised that he is personally monitoring developments across the state.

Later, Mann visited Rara Bridge to review the situation at ground level. He said he had already written to the Prime Minister seeking the release of Rs 60,000 crore pending with the Centre.

The Chief Minister said over 1,000 villages across more than 10 districts remain affected, displacing or impacting lakhs of people.

Torrential monsoon rains, combined with the release of water from dams, have worsened flooding in several regions. There are concerns that the situation may deteriorate further.

According to Mann, nearly three lakh acres of farmland, mostly paddy fields, have gone underwater just weeks before harvest, resulting in severe crop losses.

He added that widespread loss of livestock has further hit rural households dependent on dairy and animal husbandry.

A multi-departmental workforce, he said, is working continuously on rescue and relief missions.

He further stated that breaches along swollen rivers are being repaired while medical teams are being deployed to villages to prevent the outbreak of diseases.
