Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated To Lam on his election as President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, expressing confidence in further strengthening the longstanding partnership between the two nations.
Sharing his message on the social media platform X, he highlighted the enduring friendship and mutual trust shared by India and Vietnam.
In his message, the Prime Minister noted that the time-tested relationship between the two countries would continue to grow under To Lam’s leadership.
He also conveyed his eagerness to work closely together to deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for the shared progress and prosperity of both nations and the wider region.

To Lam was confirmed as President by Vietnam’s National Assembly, with all 495 participating deputies supporting the resolution.
He had earlier served as President in 2024 and continues to hold key leadership roles within the Communist Party of Vietnam.
India and Vietnam share close and warm relations, elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during Prime Minister Modi’s visit in 2016.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc adopted a Joint Vision for Peace, Prosperity and People in 2020, guiding the partnership.
Both nations marked 50 years of diplomatic ties in 2022 and continue to expand cooperation across multiple sectors, reinforcing their commitment to regional stability, economic growth, and mutual development.
