PM Modi Condoles Fatehgarh Sahib Bus Tragedy That Claimed Six Lives

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sorrow over the fatal road accident in Fatehgarh Sahib district of Punjab, where six devotees were killed after a bus overturned.

In a message shared by the Prime Minister’s Office on X, PM Modi conveyed condolences to the bereaved families and wished a swift recovery for those injured.

The accident occurred late Tuesday night near Himmatpura on the Morinda–Chunni road in the Bassi Pathana area.

The bus, carrying around 40 passengers, was returning from Anandpur Sahib after devotees had visited the shrine on the occasion of Baisakhi.

Police said nearly 20 people sustained injuries in the incident, including women and children.

The injured reached hospitals in Morinda and Fatehgarh Sahib, and doctors referred those critically injured to PGIMER in Chandigarh for advanced treatment.

According to Senior Superintendent of Police Shubham Agarwal, initial findings suggest the bus developed a technical fault during the return journey. The driver is likely to have lost control, after which the vehicle struck an electric pole and overturned.

Residents in the area were among the first to respond, assisting in rescue efforts before police and emergency services arrived at the scene.

Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the precise cause of the accident.
