78th Independence Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked India’s 78th Independence Day with a solemn ceremony at the Red Fort on Thursday, where he hoisted the national flag and honored the sacrifices of freedom fighters.

Addressing the nation from the historic monument, PM Modi emphasized the significance of remembering the countless individuals who fought for India’s freedom. “Today is the day to pay tributes to the uncountable ‘Azaadi ke deewane’ who made sacrifices for the nation. This country is indebted to them,” he stated.

The ceremony was accompanied by a spectacular display from the Indian Air Force’s Advanced Light Helicopters, which showered flower petals over the Red Fort as the Prime Minister unfurled the Tiranga.

This year’s celebration marked PM Modi’s first address in his historic third term and his 11th consecutive Independence Day speech. Prior to delivering his address, he inspected the Guard of Honour at the Red Fort and began his day with floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.

Meanwhile, heightened security measures were in place throughout the national capital in anticipation of the high-profile event.

The theme for this year’s Independence Day was “Viksit Bharat@2047,” highlighting the government’s ambition to transform India into a developed nation by the centenary of its independence. In his speech, PM Modi remarked, “Viksit Bharat 2047 are not mere words; they are a reflection of the resolve and dreams of 140 crore people.”

On the eve of the celebration, the Prime Minister also lauded the success of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, which has gained momentum since its inception during the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. As the campaign enters its fourth year, PM Modi encouraged broader participation, reinforcing the campaign’s growing significance.
