On the eve of India’s 78th Independence Day, President Droupadi Murmu addressed the nation, urging for a more inclusive society. She called for strengthening affirmative action as a key tool for this purpose. The President emphasized that social justice remains the top priority of the Narendra Modi government, highlighting initiatives such as distributing free foodgrains to over 80 crore people.

Celebrating Unity and Electoral Success

President Murmu expressed the joy of witnessing the tricolor unfurled at various locations, celebrating Independence Day as a collective national event. She reflected on the historical significance of Independence Day and Republic Day, recognizing the connection between past freedom fighters and future generations. The President also praised the Election Commission, voters, and officials for conducting the largest electoral exercise in history, noting its impact on global democratic forces.

Economic Growth and Poverty Reduction

Murmu highlighted India’s impressive economic growth between 2021 and 2024, with an average annual growth rate of 8 percent. This growth has increased incomes and significantly reduced poverty. She noted the continued success of the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, which provides free rations to 80 crore people. The President lauded India’s rise to the fifth-largest economy and its potential to join the top three, attributing this success to the efforts of farmers, workers, planners, and visionary leadership.
