On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi convened a high-level meeting with the Secretaries of various Ministries and Departments of the Government of India to assess the nation’s security preparedness.
The meeting aimed to ensure smooth inter-ministerial coordination amidst growing concerns over national security.
At the outset, PM Modi stressed the importance of ensuring uninterrupted operational continuity and strengthening institutional resilience in the face of emerging security challenges.
He directed the Secretaries to conduct comprehensive reviews of their respective ministries’ operations, with a strong emphasis on emergency response systems, internal communication protocols, and the operational continuity of essential services.
The meeting adopted a ‘Whole of Government’ approach, where each Ministry presented detailed plans on how they are addressing the current security situation.
The discussions were focused on identifying actionable steps relevant to the ongoing national security developments and ensuring that all agencies are prepared to respond swiftly and effectively.
Key Discussion Areas: Civil Defence, Misinformation, and Critical Infrastructure Security
Among the key areas discussed were the enhancement of civil defence mechanisms, countering misinformation and fake news, and securing critical national infrastructure.
The government has also called for closer coordination between central and state agencies, as well as ground-level institutions, to ensure a unified and effective response to any emerging situation.
The meeting saw the participation of senior government officials, including the Cabinet Secretary and Secretaries from key Ministries such as Defence, Home Affairs, External Affairs, Power, Telecommunications, Information & Broadcasting, and Health.
Their involvement underlined the seriousness with which the government is approaching the current situation.
PM Modi reiterated the need for heightened vigilance, continued alertness, and clear communication between various agencies, particularly during this sensitive period.
He assured the nation of the government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding national security, maintaining operational preparedness, and ensuring the safety of every citizen.
The meeting comes on the heels of strategic military actions by India, including increased defence activity and heightened troop readiness along the western borders.
Multi-layered air defence systems have been activated, while warships have been deployed in the Arabian Sea to further strengthen national security.
These measures reflect the government’s firm stance on maintaining preparedness against any security threats.
As tensions continue to rise along India’s western frontier, the Centre has maintained close coordination with all stakeholders, both at the central and state levels, to ensure internal stability and an effective response to external threats.
The government remains committed to a unified approach to national security, responding proactively to the evolving situation.
