rime Minister Narendra Modi offered prayers at the historic Somnath Temple in Gujarat, participating in rituals including ‘Abhishek’ and ‘Aarti’.
The visit coincided with the Somnath Swabhiman Parv, commemorating 1,000 years of resilience, devotion, and India’s enduring pride.
Addressing an enthusiastic crowd at Sadbhavna Maidan, PM Modi described the festival as a celebration of India’s existence and the temple’s thousand-year journey.
“This time, the environment and celebration are wonderful. The presence of Lord Somnath’s devotees, the chants, the waves of the sea, and the rays of the sun make this occasion divine and grand,” he said.
He emphasised that the flag atop the temple symbolises India’s strength and resilience for the world to see.
The Prime Minister paid tribute to the countless warriors who defended the temple over centuries, recognising the sacrifices that ensured its survival. He noted the historic parallels between Somnath’s resilience and India’s journey, stating that despite repeated invasions, neither the temple nor the nation was destroyed.
PM Modi also highlighted the sacredness of Prabhas Patan, linked not only to Lord Shiva but also to Lord Krishna, acknowledging the region’s deep spiritual and cultural heritage.
The celebrations featured the ‘Shaurya Yatra’, devotional chants, cultural performances, and participation by students from Vedic gurukuls.
PM Modi interacted with artists and devotees, adding to the festival’s festive and spiritual atmosphere.
Marking 75 years since its modern reconstruction in 1951, the Somnath Swabhiman Parv reflects India’s civilisational pride and spiritual strength.
PM Modi described the festival as not merely a remembrance of past destruction but a commemoration of perseverance, devotion, and national pride, inspiring generations to honour India’s rich heritage.
