Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered prayers at the Somnath Temple in Gujarat, performing ‘Abhishek’ and ‘Aarti’ amid Vedic chants, and sought the blessings of Lord Somnath.
He interacted with temple priests, administration officials, and students from local Gurukuls.

Earlier, he participated in the Shaurya Yatra, a ceremonial procession honouring the warriors who defended the temple
Large crowds lined the streets, showering him with flowers and chanting his name as the rhythm of the Damru, an instrument associated with Lord Shiva, filled the air.

PM Modi also played the Damru alongside artists and greeted performers from Rajasthan, Punjab, Manipur, Gujarat, and other regions.

The artists expressed their excitement at performing before the Prime Minister, highlighting the event’s cultural vibrancy.
Following the prayers, PM Modi addressed a gathering at Sadbhavna Maidan, reflecting on the temple’s spiritual and historical importance.
In the afternoon, he travelled to Rajkot to inaugurate a trade show and the Vibrant Gujarat Regional Conference for Kutch and Saurashtra.
Later, he reached Gandhinagar to launch Phase 2 of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project, connecting Sector 10A to Mahatma Mandir.
The Somnath Swabhiman Parv honours the temple’s enduring legacy as a symbol of India’s civilisational courage and repeated reconstruction despite centuries of invasions.
This year also marks 75 years since the temple’s modern reconstruction, inaugurated in 1951 by then-President Dr Rajendra Prasad, following efforts led by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
The celebrations pay tribute to the devotion and bravery of countless generations who ensured the temple’s revival.
