Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana
PMJDY, a National Mission on Financial Inclusion, aims to ensure that every household in India has access to banking services, financial literacy, and facilities like credit, insurance, and pensions.
A notable feature of the scheme is the provision of zero-balance bank accounts, a significant shift from previous norms.
Beneficiaries also receive a RuPay Debit card with an inbuilt accident insurance cover of Rs 1 lakh.
The initiative further supports the Direct Benefits Transfer (DBT) scheme, facilitating the transfer of government benefits directly into beneficiaries’ accounts.
Addressing technological hurdles such as connectivity and online transactions, the scheme plans to leverage mobile transactions through telecom operators and their networks as additional cash-out points.
Efforts are also underway to engage the youth in this Mission Mode Programme, aiming to expand its reach and efficacy.
