PM Narendra Modi has cancelled his upcoming three-nation visit to Europe in response to escalating tensions with Pakistan.
The move comes shortly after India launched a major military operation targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
India conducted ‘Operation Sindoor’ early Wednesday morning, striking nine high-value terror targets in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.
The Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force jointly carried out the precision strikes at 1:44 am.
Prime Minister Modi monitored the operation throughout the night, maintaining direct communication with senior military commanders and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
PM Modi was scheduled to visit Croatia, Norway, and the Netherlands starting May 13. He was also expected to participate in the 3rd India-Nordic Summit in Oslo on May 15-16.
However, officials have now informed the concerned governments that the visit has been cancelled.
The Indian government clarified that the strikes deliberately avoided Pakistani military facilities and focused solely on dismantling terror infrastructure.
Officials described the action as ‘focused, measured, and non-escalatory’.
A government spokesperson stated, “Our actions have been deliberate and restrained. We targeted only terror infrastructure, not military assets. India has shown considerable restraint in the planning and execution of this operation.”
In addition to scrapping the Europe visit, PM Modi has also decided against travelling to Moscow for Russia’s Victory Day celebrations on May 9.
Reiterating its firm stance on national security, the government declared, “This government has kept its promise — those responsible will be held accountable.”
PM Modi had earlier cut short his visit to Saudi Arabia last month to return immediately after the Pahalgam terror attack, underlining the seriousness with which India is treating the current security situation.
