PM Narendra Modi on Friday held a telephonic dialogue with Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain, to deliberate on the escalating crisis in West Asia. He strongly denounced assaults on energy facilities and civilian infrastructure, highlighting their far-reaching consequences on global food, fuel, and fertiliser security.

During the exchange, Prime Minister Modi conveyed greetings on Eid al-Fitr and expressed gratitude for Bahrain’s continued support towards the Indian diaspora. He emphasised the necessity of safeguarding maritime routes and ensuring uninterrupted shipping operations.

The discussion comes amid heightened tensions following the February 28 strikes by the United States and Israel on Iran, which resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and senior military officials.

In retaliation, Iran launched drone and missile strikes targeting US and Israeli assets and allied positions across the region.

In recent days, PM Modi has engaged with multiple global leaders, including those from Malaysia, Oman, France, Kuwait, the UAE, Israel, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, maintaining active diplomatic coordination.

He also spoke with Abdullah II of Jordan, stressing dialogue and diplomacy as essential for restoring stability.

In a separate call with Emmanuel Macron, President of France, Prime Minister Modi reiterated the urgency of de-escalation. He similarly engaged Haitham bin Tariq, Sultan of Oman, condemning violations of sovereignty and supporting peaceful resolution.

The Prime Minister also appreciated Oman and Jordan for facilitating the safe evacuation of stranded individuals, including Indian nationals, and reaffirmed India’s commitment to secure navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
