Both leaders said his teachings continue to inspire generations and reaffirmed his lasting influence on India’s intellectual and cultural heritage.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also offered his respects to Swami Vivekananda and highlighted his role in introducing Vedanta, Indian philosophy and the country’s intellectual traditions to the world. He also credited the spiritual leader with establishing the Ramakrishna Mission to promote both service and spirituality.

Born as Narendranath Datta on January 12, 1863, Swami Vivekananda became one of India’s most celebrated spiritual thinkers and the foremost disciple of Sri Ramakrishna. He earned worldwide acclaim after addressing the World’s Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893, where his famous opening greeting, ‘Sisters and Brothers of America’, received an enthusiastic standing ovation.
After returning from his first visit to the West, Swami Vivekananda established the Ramakrishna Order at Belur Math in 1898 and expanded Vedanta’s reach through his lectures and writings.
Swami Vivekananda also attained Mahasamadhi at Belur Math on July 4, 1902, at the age of 39, leaving behind a spiritual legacy that continues to inspire people around the world.
