Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday paid heartfelt tributes to Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his 125th birth anniversary, describing the Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder as one of India’s greatest nation-builders whose ideals continue to inspire the country’s progress towards a developed India, or Viksit Bharat.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister praised Dr Mookerjee’s remarkable contribution to national service, highlighting his scholarship, courage and unwavering commitment to safeguarding India’s unity, dignity and development.

He said Dr Mookerjee devoted his life to strengthening the nation and left behind an enduring legacy that continues to guide future generations.

PM Modi hailed Dr Mookerjee’s contributions to education, industry and nation-building, saying his commitment to India’s unity continues to inspire the country’s journey towards Viksit Bharat.

He also recalled his humanitarian work during the Bengal Famine.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid tribute, saying Dr Mookerjee’s ‘Nation First’ philosophy and efforts to uphold India’s unity remain an enduring source of inspiration.

Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee (1901–1953) founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the predecessor of the BJP, and devoted his life to strengthening India’s unity and nation-building.
