India will host the BRICS Heads of Anti-Drug Agencies Meeting in Guwahati, Assam, on July 7 and 8, bringing together senior officials from member nations to strengthen cooperation against narcotics trafficking and other emerging drug-related threats.
Hosted by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) under the Ministry of Home Affairs, the two-day meeting aims to enhance institutional collaboration, intelligence sharing and operational coordination among BRICS countries.
Delegates will discuss the drug situation in their respective countries while exploring ways to address the growing challenges posed by synthetic drugs, precursor chemical diversion, darknet-enabled trafficking and New Psychoactive Substances (NPS).
The meeting will also focus on strengthening institutional mechanisms and expanding cooperation through joint capacity-building initiatives.
Officials will participate in six thematic sessions covering real-time drug interdiction using digital technology, combating darknet-based trafficking, tackling emerging psychoactive substances, preventing precursor chemical diversion, reducing drug demand through awareness and rehabilitation measures, and reinforcing institutional cooperation.
The meeting will conclude with the adoption of a joint declaration.
The Ministry of Home Affairs said the global drug trafficking landscape has become increasingly complex due to the rise of synthetic narcotics, cryptocurrency-based financial transactions and sophisticated trafficking networks.
However, advances in data analytics, financial intelligence and interdiction technologies also provide new opportunities for coordinated international enforcement.
India sees the meeting as a step towards strengthening BRICS cooperation through greater intelligence sharing, operational coordination and capacity building to tackle evolving drug threats.
The event will also showcase India’s anti-narcotics strategy, backed by its Vision Document on Narcotics Control (2026–2029).
As BRICS Chair, India will promote cooperation on intelligence sharing, precursor chemical monitoring, joint training and best practices under the theme ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability’.
