Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday criticized the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal over the Sandeshkhali incident during a poll rally in Purulia. Modi accused TMC members of maligning the character of women from Sandeshkhali to defend “their Shahjahan.”

“To protect ‘their Shahjahan’, TMC members are questioning the character of the sisters of Sandeshkhali,” Modi said. “The language they are using is deplorable, and the daughters of Bengal will respond by ousting TMC through their votes.”

Modi pointed out that despite the TMC’s slogan of ‘Maa, Maati, and Manush’, the party has failed to protect these values. He emphasized that the Sandeshkhali incident has deeply affected the women of Bengal, particularly those from the SC and ST communities. “TMC has dehumanized these women to protect Shahjahan Sheikh,” he asserted. “TMC leaders are blaming the victims of these atrocities.”

Furthermore, Modi accused TMC of disrespecting revered institutions like ISKCON, Ramakrishna Mission, and Bharat Sevashram Sangha. He claimed that Mamata Banerjee’s party is spreading falsehoods against these organizations to appease their vote bank. “West Bengal Chief Minister is threatening these spiritual organizations, crossing all limits of decency,” he said.

Modi referred to Mamata Banerjee’s speech where she accused some monks from Ramakrishna Mission and Bharat Sevashram Sangha of being influenced by BJP leaders in Delhi. She remarked that while temple caretakers perform valuable spiritual work, not all are genuine in their efforts. “We respect the monks,” Banerjee had stated.

In his address, Modi also linked TMC and Congress in West Bengal, calling them “two sides of the same coin.” He highlighted the discovery of large sums of money at the homes of Congress leaders, suggesting similar corruption within TMC. “They criticize me, but I have always been transparent with you,” Modi declared.
