Delhi Court Seeks Action Taken Report from Police on Sameer Wankhede’s Complaint Against IPS Officer

Delhi Patiala House court has requested an action taken report from the Delhi Police concerning IRS Officer Sameer Wankhede’s complaint against IPS Officer and NCB DDG Gyaneshwar Singh.

Wankhede has urged the registration of an FIR against Singh under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. He alleges that Singh harassed him during an inquiry into alleged procedural lapses related to the Cordelia cruise drugs case.

Additional Sessions Judge Devender Kumar Jangala of the Patiala House Courts issued notice to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West District, Delhi) and ordered an action taken report regarding Wankhede’s complaint lodged with the Mumbai Police.

The case will be heard on February 6.

In December last year, the Mumbai Police informed Wankhede that his complaint was transferred to the Delhi Police for further action.

Wankhede approached the court under Section 156(3) of Cr.PC, alleging that Singh committed offenses punishable under various sections of the SC & ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

He asserts his entitlement to the protection granted under the enactment as a member of the Scheduled Caste community.

Wankhede informed the court that he sent several emails to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West District, Delhi) for further action, but no action was taken, and no FIR was registered against Singh.

The NCB’s Competent Authority constituted a Special Enquiry Team (SET) to investigate allegations against Wankhede regarding the cruise raid.

Last year, the Central Administrative Tribunal directed a hearing for Wankhede before any action could be taken, noting that Gyaneshwar Singh, actively involved in the investigation, should not have been part of the SET.

Wankhede claims that Singh went beyond the scope of the inquiry and humiliated him for being a member of the Scheduled Caste.

Advocates Aditya Giri, Anand Kumar, Sadaf Imran, and Hemant Kalra represented Sameer Wankhede.
