The Parliament’s Budget Session for 2025 will begin on January 31 and run until April 4, with the session divided into two parts. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget for the eighth consecutive time on February 1.
The provisional calendar, released by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, outlines the key events for the session.
President’s Address And Economic Survey
The session will start with President Droupadi Murmu addressing a joint sitting of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on January 31 at 11 a.m. This will be followed by the tabling of the Economic Survey, which provides an overview of the country’s economic performance and outlines projections for the year ahead.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju confirmed the session dates on X, writing that President Murmu had approved the summoning of both Houses of Parliament from January 31 to April 4, 2025, “subject to exigencies of parliamentary business.”
Parliament Budget Session & Its First Part
Finance Minister Sitharaman will present the Union Budget for 2025-26 on February 1 in the Lok Sabha. After the Budget is presented, both Houses of Parliament may adjourn for a recess starting on February 13, 2025, resuming on March 10, 2025. The second part of the session will focus on examining and reporting on the Demands for Grants of various ministries and departments.
The first part of the session, from January 31 to February 13, will consist of nine sittings. During this time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will respond to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address, and Finance Minister Sitharaman will reply to the discussion on the Budget.
Resumption of Parliament And Final Discussions
After the break, Parliament will reconvene on March 10 for further discussions, including those on the Demands for Grants. The entire Budget Session will have 27 sittings and will conclude on April 4, 2025.
Sitharaman, who presented her seventh Budget in July 2024, will now break a new record by presenting her eighth consecutive Budget. This surpasses the previous record held by former Prime Minister Morarji Desai, who presented six consecutive Budgets.
Sitharaman, a key figure in Prime Minister Modi’s Cabinet, previously served as the Defence Minister during the Balakot surgical strikes of 2019. She took over as Finance Minister in 2019 and has held the position ever since, playing a central role in shaping India’s economic policies.
