The parents of a female doctor from RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, who tragically experienced rape and murder last month, have leveled serious allegations against the Kolkata Police, accusing them of intentional negligence and malfeasance in the preliminary investigation.
The Calcutta High Court recently transferred the case to the CBI.
The parents have alleged that the city police not only delayed registering their complaint as an FIR but also attempted to pressure them into accepting a monetary settlement.
They voiced their grievances during a media interaction on Wednesday night, where they joined the protesting junior doctors at the hospital.
The victim’s father detailed their experience, highlighting a significant delay between filing their complaint and its official recording.
“We filed our complaint between 6:30 PM and 7 PM on August 9, but the police only registered it as an FIR at 11:45 PM,” he said.
“A senior officer even suggested we settle the matter for money when we brought our daughter’s body home, an offer we firmly rejected,” he said.
The father further alleged that an officer attempted to coerce him into signing a blank document, which he refused.
Additionally, the family criticized the police for hastening the cremation process of their daughter’s body at the Panihati crematorium, preventing them from preserving the body for further examination.
“We wanted to keep our daughter’s body for a while longer, but we were pressured into a hasty cremation. The crematorium authorities didn’t even charge us a fee,” he added.
The parents also accused the Kolkata Police of spreading misinformation through inaccurate media statements even after the CBI took over the investigation.
