After long-awaited speculations and assumptions, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) on Sunday officially announced the Uttar Pradesh party chief. Pankaj Chaudhary, the current Union Minister of State for Finance, has been declared the next BJP Chief of Uttar Pradesh unopposedly by the Central Observer.
On Saturday, Chaudhary filed the nomination for the post in Lucknow with CM Yogi Adityanath and both the deputy CMs- Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak- as proposers.
Several other prominent BJP leaders, including BJP national general secretary Vinod Tawde, former Union Minister Smriti Irani, and Uttar Pradesh government ministers Swatantra Dev Singh, Surya Pratap Shahi, Suresh Khanna, and Baby Rani Maurya, were also present for the Chaudhary nomination
Central in-charge and the officer of the state election, Union Minister Piyush Goyal and former Union Minister Dr Mahendra Nath Pandey formally declared Pankaj Chaudhary’s name in Lucknow Ram Manohar Lohia University campus.
The entire hall echoed with loud applause from the party workers as the name of Pankaj Chaudhary was declared. Bhupendra Chaudhary, the outgoing BJP UP chief, handed the party’s flag to the newly elected UP chief.
Chaudhary Expressed Gratitude From PM Modi To RSS
Addressing the organisation after assuming charge, Pankaj Chuadhary said he would lead the organisation by serving party workers rather than ruling over them, terming workers the real strength of the party.
Expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP President JP Nadda, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and the Sangh Parivar, Chaudhary said the BJP is a truly democratic party with no space for dynastic politics, casteism, or dominance of any kind.
“In the BJP, even an ordinary worker can rise to the highest positions. This is our greatest strength,” he said.
Describing his new role as a collective challenge, Chaudhary said it would be fulfilled together with party workers at every level.
“For me, office, funds, programmes and workers are all important — but workers are paramount,” he said, “I will fight for you, listen to you and resolve your problems. Leadership is not about issuing orders. I do not want to rule; I want to serve.”
Additionally, one hundred twenty newly elected members were also declared. “Two crore sixty lakh primary members and elections have been completed in 98 state units,” Mahendra Nath Pandey said.
Pankaj Chaudhary Has Cross Border Influence
A Seasoned Politician, Maharajganj MP Pankaj Choudhary, who lost the election only twice-1999 and 2009, has succeeded in winning the seat seven times since 1999, comes from the Kurmi caste. Apart from the sitting constituency, Chaudhary is known to enjoy influence in neighbouring districts such as Siddharthnagar and in Nepal.
With extensive experience in both organisation and governance, his elevation is seen as a key move as the BJP prepares for the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, following its setback in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.
