On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted elected representatives across the country on the occasion of National Panchayati Raj Day, commending their role in public service and nation-building.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Heartfelt congratulations to the people’s representatives across the country on the occasion of Panchayati Raj Day! Your dedication to public service alongside national service is truly inspiring to one and all.”
“In the happiness of the people lies the king’s happiness; in their welfare lies his own welfare. The king should consider dear not what is dear to himself, but what is dear to the people,” the post read.
The Prime Minister also shared a Sanskrit verse emphasising people-centric governance. He said the well-being of a public representative is tied to the well-being of the people.
PM Modi further added that their priorities should fully align with public interest.

Amit Shah, Union Home Minister, extended his greetings on National Panchayati Raj Day. He further highlighted the significance of local governance in India’s democratic framework.
The Minister emphasised the growing role of panchayats in driving rural development and strengthening self-reliance across the country.
Taking to X, Shah posted, “Heartiest greetings to the fellow citizens on National Panchayati Raj Day. The ‘Panchayat system’, one of the oldest democratic traditions of India, is a strong pillar of our democracy.”
“Panchayats, which play a vital role from rural development, governance-administration, social justice, disaster management to cultural preservation, are becoming even more empowered and self-reliant in the Modi government, contributing to the creation of ‘Developed India’,” the post read.

National Panchayati Raj Day marks the implementation of the 73rd Constitutional Amendment Act, 1992, which came into force in 1993. The day recognises the system of local self-governance and the role of decentralisation in strengthening democracy at the grassroots level.
