Outgoing Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday and presented a detailed assessment of the Navy’s operational preparedness and the prevailing security environment across the Indian Ocean Region.
The meeting came just days before the naval chief’s retirement on May 31.
In a post on X, the Indian Navy stated that Admiral Tripathi briefed the Prime Minister on the force’s combat readiness, evolving maritime challenges and the growing influence of advanced technologies in the naval domain.
The Navy reaffirmed its commitment to protecting India’s maritime interests and highlighted its role as a combat-ready, cohesive, credible and self-reliant force capable of responding to challenges across the region.

Following Admiral Tripathi’s retirement, Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan will assume charge as the next Chief of the Naval Staff.
Admiral Tripathi assumed office as the 26th Chief of the Naval Staff on April 30, 2024. Before taking command, he served as Vice Chief of the Naval Staff and held several key operational and administrative positions.
A graduate of Sainik School Rewa and the National Defence Academy, Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi joined the Indian Navy on July 1, 1985. He specialised in Communication and Electronic Warfare and built an extensive career across strategic and operational roles.
Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi commanded INS Vinash, INS Kirch and INS Trishul. While leading INS Kirch, he played a significant role in humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations following the 2004 tsunami. His efforts earned appreciation from Sri Lanka’s President.
During his career, Admiral Tripathi served as Executive Officer of INS Mumbai. He also held the positions of Fleet Electronic Warfare Officer, Fleet Communication Officer and Fleet Operations Officer.
Admiral Tripathi also served as Director General of Naval Operations, Chief of Personnel, and Commandant of the Indian Naval Academy. He led the Eastern Fleet and the Western Naval Command.
Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi received the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Nao Sena Medal. He also earned the Thimmaiya Medal and the Robert E Bateman International Prize for professional excellence.
