Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday criticised Opposition parties for celebrating the defeat of the Women’s Reservation (Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha. He asserted that their stance exposed their ‘true and ugly face’.
PM Modi specifically targeted parties, including the Samajwadi Party and the Indian National Congress.
Addressing a large public gathering in Hardoi after inaugurating the Ganga Expressway, the Prime Minister described the Samajwadi Party as anti-development and anti-women.
PM Modi said the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ would grant women reservation in Assemblies and the Lok Sabha from 2029. He added that this would not have reduced seats for any other category.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi further alleged that parties such as the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam opposed the Bill because they feared Uttar Pradesh would gain additional seats. He stated that other Opposition groups supported this position.
PM Modi maintained that the amendment would have proportionately increased seats across all states.
The Prime Minister highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s transformation under the current administration. He noted that the state is progressing towards becoming a one-trillion-dollar economy.
PM Modi recalled that the Ganga Expressway project, initiated in December 2021, was completed within five years and stands among the longest green corridor expressways. He emphasised that modern expressways, including the recently inaugurated Delhi-Dehradun Expressway, serve as vital lifelines for national growth.
The Prime Minister criticised previous governments for delays and inefficiency, stating that projects now adhere to strict timelines.
PM Modi described the expressway as a catalyst for economic opportunity. It will enhance market access, strengthen agricultural infrastructure, and raise farmers’ incomes. He also highlighted improved connectivity, noting that
Uttar Pradesh now has 21 airports, including five international facilities.
The Prime Minister concluded by asserting that improved law and order and rapid infrastructure expansion have repositioned the state as a model of development.
