Opposition Leaders
Multiple opposition MPs, including Congress’ Shashi Tharoor, Priyanka Chaturvedi of the Shiv Sena, AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, and Trinamool MP Mahua Moitra, claim to have received messages from Apple warning of “state-sponsored attackers trying to remotely compromise” their iPhones. Government sources have acknowledged these messages but noted that threat detection on iPhones can be imperfect and incomplete. According to Apple, these notifications were triggered when their systems detected “activity consistent with a state-sponsored attack.”
Sources within Apple have suggested that the “threat notifications” were triggered by an “algorithm malfunction,” and a detailed statement on this error will be released soon.

Today, these MPs posted screenshots of the messages they received. Mahua Moitra also claimed that leaders from other parties, including Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, the Aam Aadmi Party’s Raghav Chadha, CPM General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, and the Congress’ Pawan Khera, also received the message.
The message warns that “state-sponsored attackers” are targeting them, and if their device is compromised, these attackers may gain access to sensitive data, communications, or even the camera and microphone.
