Rajya Sabha MP and former Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Dr Dinesh Sharma on Monday said that the politics of opportunism and pretence no longer has a future in the country.
Addressing a gathering, he said there was a time when opposition leaders secured votes through symbolic gestures, caste identity and outward displays of religiosity during elections, but that phase has now passed. According to him, only those committed to public service will succeed in contemporary politics.
Dr Sharma asserted that no citizen belonging to any religion could accuse the BJP government of discrimination in the delivery of welfare schemes. He said the party prioritises service over merely winning elections or acquiring power.
Speaking at a blanket distribution programme organised by Mamta Charitable Trust on the birth anniversary of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh and the birth anniversary of former BJP national president Dr Murli Manohar Joshi, Dr Sharma said service remains the party’s highest principle.
He also credited Lucknow MP and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for the transformation of the state capital.
The Rajya Sabha MP said people in Lucknow turn to BJP workers in times of need, as they assist without discrimination. He said those alleging bias against the BJP should examine welfare initiatives ranging from the Kisan Samman Nidhi to housing, toilets, LPG connections and treatment under the Ayushman scheme, where no beneficiary’s caste or religion is asked before extending support. He said this non-discriminatory approach defines the BJP’s identity.
G Ram G Bill and Employment for the Poor
Dr Sharma said India has undergone a significant transformation and highlighted the Modi government’s introduction of the G Ram G Bill, which, he said, guarantees 125 days of employment for the poor and creates livelihood opportunities within villages, reducing the need for migration.
He accused the Congress of opposing such public welfare legislation and said the Centre intends to provide greater financial support to uplift the living standards of the poor. He described the G Ram G Bill as a lifeline for economically weaker sections and said the government was implementing Deendayal Upadhyaya’s principle of equality in practice.
Several BJP leaders, party workers and citizens attended the programmes, including city BJP president Anand Dwivedi, party regional vice-president Rajeev Mishra, corporators Girish Gupta, Saket Sharma, Krishna Kumar Lodhi, Krishna Lodhi, Anu Mishra and Rajeev Bajpai.
They paid floral tributes at the statue of the late Kalyan Singh near the municipal corporation, followed by a public meeting.
On Dr Murli Manohar Joshi’s birth anniversary, blankets and tricycles distributed near DAV College in Rajendra Nagar.
