IMD predictions on Cold wave
IMD: Several parts of the northern region have experienced some relief from the severe cold wave prevailing in the past few days. In a weather report, India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that no cold wave conditions are likely to be observed over north India during the next week.

Scattered snowfall or rainfall is likely over Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh.
Isolated snow or rain is forecast over Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim.
Isolated rainfall may occur over Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Dense fog is possible in isolated places over Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura, Sikkim, Bihar, Odisha, East Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh.
Air quality is expected to be very poor in Northern and Central India and poor in Northeastern, Eastern, and Southern India.

IMD Weather Report
Ahead of the IMD prediction, an intense Western Disturbance is likely to affect Western Himalayan Region from January 21 plains of northwest India between January 23 and 27.
“The Western Disturbance now seen as a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan & neighborhood in middle tropospheric level and an induced cyclonic circulation lies over Southwest Rajasthan & neighborhood in lower tropospheric level. There are Jet stream winds of order up to 130 Knots along Latitude 28°N over the Indian Region in upper tropospheric levels,” said the weather agency.
Meanwhile, another active Western Disturbance is now seen as a trough in middle and upper tropospheric westerlies along Long. 62°E to the north of Lat. 24°N. This disturbance is very likely to move slowly eastwards and intensify further along with high moisture feeding from the Arabian Sea over northwest India at lower & middle tropospheric levels mainly between January 23 and 27.
The second Western Disturbance can lead to light scattered to widespread rainfall/snowfall over parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand till January 27 with its peak intensity between January 24 and 26. Isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall over the above areas are also likely during the same period.
Further, the IMD predicted, “Light/moderate isolated to scattered rainfall/thundershower is likely over Punjab, Haryana & Chandigarh, north Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh on 23rd and increase thereafter over the area with scattered to fairly widespread rainfall during 24th to 27th and over Delhi during 24th to 27th January 2023.” Light isolated to scattered rainfall with thundershowers is likely over central India between January 25 and 27.
