NIC comes to assist ‘ethics committee’ in “cash for query” case of Mahua Moitra

On October 26, the ethics committee will convene to begin looking at the accusations against Moitra.

According to Union Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday, the National Informatics Centre (NIC), which among other things runs the portals for the Parliament and its members, will “fully cooperate” with the Lok Sabha’s ethics committee in its investigation into the “cash for query” claims made against Trinamool Congress (TMC) lawmaker Mahua Moitra.

NIC to look in the Mahua Moitra case

On October 26, the ethics committee will convene to begin looking at the accusations against Moitra. “NIC will promptly respond to any instructions in this matter from the Lok Sabha Secretariat. NIC will also extend full cooperation to the Committee on Ethics in investigation on this matter,” the minister said in his reply to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey, who has raised the charges against Moitra.

Vaishnaw referred to the points made by Dubey as being of “grave importance” in his letter from October 24. “Organizations that avail services from the NIC are within the purview of matters related to user-access, website policy, etc.,” he wrote. The House secretariat employs NIC to provide services for the Lok Sabha website. Speaker Om Birla receives reports from the secretariat.

Moitra takes to X

Vaishnaw’s promise is essential since the panel might need technical assistance to verify Jai Anant Dehadrai, an advocate and former friend of Dubey and Moitra, who has claimed that the TMC MP permitted him to access her parliamentary account in order to post questions on her behalf. Additionally, according to Dubey, the MP’s account was accessed from Dubai, jeopardizing security.

“Who is lying? 2 days ago Fake Degree Wala said NIC already given details including “Dubai” logins to probe agency. Now Ashwini Vaishnaw says NIC will give info in future IF asked by LS or Ethics Comm. BJP welcome to do hit job on me but Adani+Godda perhaps not best strategists!” Moitra posted on X.
