NIA Arrests Lawrence Bishnoi’s Aide Rahul Sarkar; Busts Fake Passport Module

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Rahul Sarkar, an aide of gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, on Friday, dismantling the gang’s fake passport operation that enabled the killer of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala to flee India in 2022, officials confirmed.

Following his arrest, Sarkar was produced before a Special Court, which remanded him to NIA custody for further questioning.

The investigation revealed that Sarkar arranged forged passports for gang members, helping them escape the country after committing serious crimes.

Among those aided by Sarkar was Sachin Thapan, also known as Sachin Thapan Bishnoi, the prime accused in the assassination of Sidhu Moosewala.

Investigation Linked To Conspiracy Case

Rahul Sarkar’s arrest forms part of an ongoing NIA probe into a case registered in August 2022 under directives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

The case centres on a conspiracy involving criminal gangs and syndicates raising funds and recruiting youths to engage in illegal activities.

The investigation continues under provisions related to criminal conspiracy and sections 17, 18, and 18-B of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

Reward Announced For Arrest Of Lawrence Bishnoi’s Brother

In a related development last year, the NIA offered a Rs 10 lakh reward for information leading to the arrest of Anmol Bishnoi, Lawrence Bishnoi’s brother, who features in two charge sheets linked to the case.

Earlier Arrest Of Syndicate Member In Delhi

Previously, in 2023, the police apprehended Anjeet, a 37-year-old key member of the Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate with a criminal record spanning 16 serious offences including murder and attempted murder.

Police arrested Anjeet in Delhi’s Rohini area, where he maintained contacts with gangsters Goldy Brar and Anmol Bishnoi and knew of several targets they assigned.

Police recovered a semi-automatic pistol with five bullets from Anjeet’s possession. His arrest followed specific intelligence regarding his movements near the Heliport in Rohini.
