New Year’s Eve: Delhi Traffic Police Announces Major Curbs In Connaught Place

As Delhi gears up for New Year’s Eve, the city’s traffic authorities have announced extensive restrictions in key areas to prevent congestion and ensure public safety.

From 7 PM on Wednesday, the Delhi Traffic Police will bar vehicular movement in the inner, middle, and outer circles of Connaught Place to facilitate seamless celebrations.

The Delhi Traffic Police confirmed in a statement that they will not allow vehicles to enter Connaught Place beyond several major points, including Round About Mandi House, RA Bengali Market, North foot of Ranjit Singh Flyover, Munje Chowk near New Delhi Railway Station, Gole Market, Patel Chowk, Kasturba Gandhi Road–Ferozeshah Road crossing, and Windsor Place.

Authorities have urged commuters to avoid these roads and use public transport wherever possible.

For visitors heading to India Gate, authorities warned of limited parking space and potential pedestrian congestion.

Authorities may bar vehicles from entering the C-Hexagon area if foot traffic becomes heavy.

Authorities expect congestion around Delhi Zoo and Mathura Road and advise motorists to avoid Bhairon Road and Mathura Road between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Pragati Maidan.

The traffic police have implemented special management plans for devotees visiting Shri Mata Jhandewalan Mandir on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.

Commuters are advised to avoid Rani Jhansi Road during peak hours.

Advisory for Railway Stations and Airports

The traffic police emphasised cooperation from the public to reduce congestion and ensure safe journeys, especially for those travelling to ISBTs, railway stations, or airports.

While the curbs may not affect traffic towards the Old Railway Station, the authorities have suggested alternative routes for accessing New Delhi Railway Station after 7 PM.

These include routes via Ram Manohar Lohiya Park Street, Mandir Marg, Rani Jhansi Road, Desh Bandhu Gupta Road, and multiple points from Connaught Place and Windsor Place.

Authorities will prohibit entry from Chelmsford Road, but they will allow motorists to use the Second Entry Gate via Ajmeri Gate or Pahar Ganj routes.

Authorities urge the public to plan their travel and make maximum use of public transport to ensure a safe and enjoyable New Year celebration.
