The Patiala House Court has rejected Neelam Azad’s bail plea in the Parliament security lapse case. Additional Sessions Judge Hardeep Kaur stated that bail could not be granted at this stage. The court reserved its decision on September 9 after hearing both sides.
Police opposed the bail, claiming Neelam attended three of the five meetings where the incident was planned. They stressed the timing of the attack on December 13, the same day as the 2001 Parliament attack, was deliberate.
Attack Linked to Terror Anniversary
Police argued that the accused intentionally planned the incident to coincide with the Parliament terror attack anniversary. They questioned whether an attack is a terrorist act only when lives are lost. Neelam’s defense team insisted she was falsely implicated.
Earlier, Delhi Police filed two supplementary charge sheets. The court acknowledged these on August 3. The accused, including Neelam Azad, Manoranjan D, Lalit Jha, Amol Shinde, Mahesh Kumawat, and Sagar Sharma, face charges under the UAPA and various sections of the IPC.
Chaos Inside Parliament
On December 13 last year, two accused jumped into the Parliament chamber from the visitor gallery. One of them released yellow smoke, creating chaos. MPs restrained them, and security took them into custody.
The accused were identified as Sagar Sharma from Lucknow and Manoranjan D from Mysore. Police arrested two others shouting slogans outside Parliament. The Delhi Police Special Cell had previously filed a 1,000-page charge sheet against the six accused under UAPA and IPC sections.
