A delegation of NCP(SP) MPs, led by Baramati MP Supriya Sule, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday amid speculation that the party could join the NDA.
Following the 20-minute meeting, Shirur MP Dr Amol Kolhe said the interaction focused on Maharashtra’s policy, infrastructure and cultural issues and remained strictly non-political.
PM Modi enquired about the health of veteran leader Sharad Pawar and discussed his political journey and public life.
The MPs sought Bharat Ratna for Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule, Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe and Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj.
Bajrang Sonawane sought the release of water from Ujani Dam to Manjara Dam amid the drought in Beed and raised demands concerning crop insurance, agriculture, healthcare, employment, and infrastructure.
The delegation also sought faster decisions on naming Navi Mumbai International Airport after DB Patil and acceleration of projects including the Nashik-Pune high-speed railway, Pune-Nashik Metro, JNPT port expansion and Kalyan-Murbad railway line.
Other issues included cancer treatment infrastructure, onion prices, Chandrabhaga River pollution, traffic congestion and poor roads in Chakan Industrial Zone, where Kolhe said 19 fatal accidents had occurred despite a sanctioned Rs 59 crore road repair tender.
Sule said no political issues were discussed and that direct outreach was necessary amid disruptions in Parliament.
Kolhe also rejected speculation that the meeting concerned NDA entry or a Delimitation Bill, noting that Parliament has not introduced any such Bill.
Sonawane said NCP(SP) remained committed to the Opposition and dismissed political conclusions drawn from routine encounters with ruling coalition leaders.
NCP(SP) MLA Rohit Pawar said the party’s eight Lok Sabha MPs would vote against the Delimitation Bill.
