Patel, India’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, played a pivotal role in integrating hundreds of princely states into the Indian Union following Independence. His contribution to national integration earned him the title ‘Iron Man of India’.
Every year on October 31, India observes National Unity Day to commemorate Patel’s birth anniversary and recognise his contribution to the country’s unity and integrity.
