Home Minister Amit Shah paid tribute on social media platform X, praising Vajpayee’s commitment to national interests and his role in strengthening India’s strategic and economic foundations. “Atal ji will always be remembered for his dedication to political correctness and national loyalty. He popularized the ideology of national interest and made significant contributions as Prime Minister. My deepest respects to Bharat Ratna Atal ji on his death anniversary,” Shah wrote.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who passed away in 2018, was a significant figure in Indian politics. Born in Gwalior in 1924, he was a leading member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and further became the first non-Congress Prime Minister to complete a full term in office. Vajpayee served as Prime Minister twice, from May 16 to June 1, 1996, and from March 19, 1998, to May 22, 2004. He was also the External Affairs Minister in the Morarji Desai cabinet from 1977 to 1979. Known for his eloquence and poetic prowess, Vajpayee was widely admired across the political spectrum.
