Officials said the city civic body has decided to impose a 10 percent water cut beginning July 1 due to Mumbai’s lakes’ levels decreasing as a result of insufficient rainfall in their catchment areas.
Iqbal Singh Chahal, Commissioner of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), has also urged residents to conserve water and utilize it wisely.
The southwest monsoon arrived in Mumbai two weeks ago and enveloped the city on Sunday.
According to Chahal, the BMC has decided to enforce 10 percent water cuts in Mumbai from July 1, because the stock in lakes supplying water to the city is about seven percent full.

Mumbai receives 3,800 MLD (millions of litres per day) of water from seven reservoirs located in Mumbai, Thane, and Nashik districts: Bhatsa, Upper Vaitarna, Middle Vaitarna, Tansa, Modak Sagar, Vihar, and Tulsi.
At 6 am today, the seven lakes had 7.26 percent stock, as per the civil body report.
According to the data, the lakes had 9.04 percent and 16.44 percent water stock respectively On the same day in 2022 and 2021, respectively.
