Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha on Tuesday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, describing the interaction as a deeply cherished experience. She was accompanied by her son Ujjwal during the meeting and expressed appreciation for the Prime Minister’s encouragement, guidance, and consistent support.
In a message shared publicly, Usha conveyed her gratitude, stating that the meeting left a lasting impression and reflected the leadership’s commitment to promoting sports in the country.

Earlier, while addressing the National Convention of the Sports Journalists Federation of India, she remarked that India has entered a crucial phase in its sporting evolution. She credited advancements in infrastructure, scientific training methods, and institutional backing for enhancing athlete performance.
Usha highlighted India’s plans to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games and its aspiration to secure the 2036 Summer Olympics, stating that such ambitions reflect growing national confidence. She noted that hosting global sporting events would accelerate infrastructure development and inspire future generations of athletes.
PT Usha further emphasised that enhanced support mechanisms have transformed the sporting ecosystem, ensuring better facilities and recognition for athletes.
Government-led initiatives, including Khelo India, have played a pivotal role in identifying and nurturing emerging talent across the country.
Usha concluded that sustained investment and policy focus continue to strengthen India’s position on the global sporting stage.
