Modi’s ‘One Nation, One Election’ Panel Galvanized INDIA Alliance To Form Its Own Committee

The Opposition’s INDIA alliance is rumored to have sprung into action gear and established internal committees for election preparation in response to the Modi government’s plan to appoint a commission to examine “One Nation, One Election.”

INDIA Alliance’s meet

The 28-party INDIA alliance met in Mumbai this week for the third time (the first two meetings were held in Patna and Bengaluru) to explore how to effectively unite and present a united face in opposition to the ruling BJP and its partners in the National Democratic coalition.

Several leaders from the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) said that while senior leaders from INDIA’s constituent parties expected to discuss a common minimum program, a coordination committee, and initial discussions on seat-sharing, many did not believe these discussions would immediately lead to concrete steps.

One Nation, One Election

The ‘One Nation, One Election’ committee caused some fear among the parties present at the INDIA alliance conference in Mumbai on Thursday and Friday, according to a senior Congress leader who was there. The alliance should begin preparing as soon as possible since there were worries that this would indicate the Lok Sabha elections could be scheduled in the coming months.

The notion of holding the Lok Sabha and assembly elections at the same time has received Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s support on several occasions in the past. His administration established a committee on

Friday to study the concept of “One Nation, One Election” after announcing a special session of Parliament from September 18 to 22 on Thursday.
In April or May of 2024, the Lok Sabha elections are slated to take place.

A 19-member campaign committee and a 14-member coordination committee were also revealed by the INDIA alliance on Friday. Three working groups were further established: one for social media, one for managing conventional media, and one for research.
