Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Monday said that India and Canada are entering a ‘new era of partnership’ after holding bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
The two leaders met at Hyderabad House, where they discussed ways to strengthen and expand the India–Canada Strategic Partnership.
Sharing a video of the meeting on X, Carney described the engagement as a significant step forward in bilateral relations.

During the talks, both leaders reviewed cooperation in trade, energy, critical minerals, agriculture, education, research, innovation and people-to-people ties, while exchanging views on regional and global issues.
The visit marks a key moment in normalising bilateral relations. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to a balanced partnership based on mutual respect and expanding economic complementarities.
The two Prime Ministers will attend the India–Canada CEOs Forum, highlighting economic collaboration. Earlier, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Carney ahead of the talks.
Following the meeting, Jaishankar expressed appreciation for Carney’s commitment to charting a forward-looking partnership between the two countries.

Accompanied by his wife, Diana Fox Carney, Carney is on his first official visit to India from February 27 to March 2, travelling from Mumbai to New Delhi for key talks.
In Mumbai, he met business leaders and investors, describing India as the world’s fastest-growing major economy and signalling partnerships in energy, innovation and AI.
PM Modi last met Carney at the G20 Summit in November 2025, where India reaffirmed a USD 50 billion trade target for 2030. The Hyderabad House talks reflect a shared resolve to deepen strategic cooperation.
