Mann Ki Baat: PM Modi Says Global Trust In India’s Defence Industry Is Growing

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India’s defence industry is steadily strengthening its position on the global stage as more countries place their trust in Indian-made military equipment.

Speaking during the 136th edition of Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi referred to his recent visit to Indonesia, where the two countries concluded major defence agreements involving the BrahMos and Astra missile systems. He said India continues to register significant progress in defence manufacturing, exports and strategic cooperation with friendly nations.

According to the Prime Minister, the agreements with Indonesia demonstrate the growing confidence of the international community in India’s defence capabilities.

During his visit, India signed an agreement to supply BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles to Indonesia.

The Southeast Asian nation will also acquire the indigenously developed Astra beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile, designed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to engage highly agile enemy aircraft.

India also agreed to supply additional BrahMos missile batteries, while both countries adopted a new framework to enhance cooperation in maritime safety and security, further strengthening bilateral defence ties.

PM Modi said India is reinforcing its military strength by advancing indigenous defence technology. He highlighted the induction of INS Mahendragiri into the Indian Navy, stating that India designed and built the warship with more than 75 per cent indigenous content, making it a strong example of the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Prime Minister Modi also highlighted the Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket (LRGR-120), developed by DRDO, and credited Indian scientists and engineers for its successful development.

Referring to the successful flight test of the Khusha missile, the Prime Minister said India remains committed to building a stronger, safer and self-reliant defence ecosystem while honouring the sacrifices of its armed forces.
