Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid heartfelt tributes to the soldiers who fought in the 1999 Kargil War during the 136th edition of his monthly radio programme, Mann Ki Baat.
Observing Kargil Vijay Diwas, PM Modi said the occasion evokes immense national pride and reflects the unmatched bravery and dedication of India’s Armed Forces.

Recalling the conflict, the Prime Minister said Indian soldiers overcame treacherous mountain terrain, severe weather conditions, and enemy aggression with unwavering determination. He honoured the supreme sacrifice of the martyrs and expressed gratitude to every soldier who defended the nation.
PM Modi said the country is ensuring that the stories of its brave soldiers continue to inspire younger generations.
Referring to this year’s Saurya Vijay Yatra, Prime Minister Modi said the motorcycle expedition began on July 14 from the National War Memorial in New Delhi and is travelling to the Kargil War Memorial in Drass.
PM Modi said the journey, centred on the message ‘One Ride, One Nation, One Salute’, serves as a tribute to the nation’s heroes and reminds every citizen that the sacrifices made for the country will always be remembered.
The Prime Minister also highlighted India’s steady progress in strengthening its indigenous defence sector. He highlighted the induction of INS Mahendragiri into the Indian Navy and described the warship as a major achievement under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, as India designed and manufactured it with more than 75 per cent indigenous content.
PM Modi also spoke about the Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket (LRGR-120), an advanced precision-guided artillery system developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
PM Modi credited Indian scientists and engineers for making the project a success through their dedication and innovation.
The Prime Minister further noted the successful flight test of the Khusha missile, saying it reflects India’s expanding technological capabilities in defence. He added that the country is strengthening its military preparedness by combining the courage of its armed forces with continuous advancements in home-grown defence technology.
